Drug And Alcohol Addiction In Annapolis, Maryland

From 2015 to 2016, the United States saw an overall increase of 21.5% in overdose deaths. At 67.8%, the state of Maryland is among the states with the greatest increases. While much of this is due to Baltimore and its surrounding county, Annapolis (seated within Anne Arundel County) have seen rampant growth as well. Anne Arundel County is third in drug overdoses across Maryland, only after Baltimore and Baltimore County. While Heroin is playing a large part of this dangerous climb, many of these deaths come from Fentanyl, an Opioid analog that is 100 times more potent than Heroin.

While there are limited treatment facilities in the immediate area, there are many in surrounding regions that specialize in various forms of addiction and abuse rehab and recovery services.

The Fentanyl Crisis In Annapolis

Fentanyl has exploded in the city of Annapolis and across the state of Maryland. While Heroin was once the most dangerous drug in Annapolis, Fentanyl has now taken over.

Like many other states throughout the US, Maryland suffers from the ongoing Opioid Epidemic with total of 2,087 Opioid-related overdosed deaths throughout the state in 2018. Because Fentanyl is easier to obtain and lace with other drugs such as Cocaine, Heroin, and illicitly manufactured prescription pills, more people throughout the state and county have accidentally overdosed; more than 85% of Cocaine-related deaths and 72% of Benzodiazepine-related deaths between 2015-2019 have involved Fentanyl.

Counterfeit Oxycodone In Annapolis

As of May, 2017, counterfeit Oxycodone tablets were being sold across Annapolis. These tablets, however, were laced with high levels of Fentanyl. The distribution of this chemical, without a proper lab and tuned equipment, is very dangerous and can easily lead to death. People using these pills, especially without knowledge of what they’re actually taking, are more likely to consume an amount that they grew tolerant to when using prescription drugs. This makes it more likely to take a dangerous amount and not have time to treat it.
